Each year the Irish Photographic Federation arranges open submissions for all members of affiliated Camera Clubs to submit their images.

The top scoring images are selected to represent Ireland in international FIAP competitions.

This current exhibition is a selection from IPF 2013 competitions.

The exhibition will be displayed in the DCC Eddie Chandler Gallery until the 6th of July and will open Saturdays from 11am to 5pm.

The competition will be held in the Clarion Hotel in Cork City on Saturday, September 28th 2013 and the SACC are organising a full weekend of activities as we look forward to welcoming visitors to our lovely city and surrounding countryside.  More details will be posted shortly, but for now, please see below for our draft program of events.  Any questions or queries, please send them to us via the comments section below and we’d be delighted to respond!

Congratulations to Dundalk Photographic Society on their wonderful success in this year’s National Club Finals! The finals saw 26 clubs vying for the honour of Top Club and the competition was particularly fierce with a fantastic range of high quality images on display. A big well done to anyone who got to represent their own club on any of the panels this weekend as the standard was as high as anything we have seen – the future of Irish photography is a very bright one indeed.

Thank you to Mullingar Camera Club for hosting the event and assisting the event coordinators with the difficult task.

Also thank you to Westmeath County Council for use for their fabulous venue, the county buildings.

Now it’s 23rd year, the Salon keeps growing in terms of number and quality.  Last year, the Salon had over 6,000 entries from in excess of 50 countries from around the globe.

This year, the Salon is striving to get even higher numbers, especially from Ireland and they invite you to make your submissions by clicking here.  The closing date for acceptance of entries is 26th September 2013.

The third and last series of “Insight Workshops” run by Ciaran Whyte FIPF and his wife Lorraine Gilligan FIPF aims to provide participants with an insight into how and why they create their images. Working with two of the top art nude models in the UK, in an amazing natural light location in Dublin, participants will be exposed to the complete cycle in how they create their images from concept through to execution, with Ciaran focusing on various ambient light techniques and Lorraine giving an insight into her creative styling and post processing.

Places are limited to 7 photographers each day and cost €300. A non-refundable deposit of €100 is required in order to secure your place. Ciaran can be contacted by email (ciaran@thewonderoflight.com). The places on the Saturday workshop are now filled, but there are still some limited spaces on Sunday 21st July. If there is significant interest, a 3rd date (Friday 19th July) may be added.

Congratulations to all of the winners of this year’s Nature Competition. As can be seen below, the standard of work was exceptional and the volume of entries was significantly increased on previous years.

A huge thank you to Hotel Kilkenny who provided the excellent venue and facilities for the Nature Finals.

Many thanks to Bermingham Cameras for their very generous sponsorship of a number of gift vouchers for winners of each section.

Much thanks also to Picturk – who powered the online entry system for this competition and provided countless hours of work both at national and regional levels to ensure things ran smoothly at the finals.

Congratulations to all of the winners of this year’s Print and Projected Image Competition. As can be seen below, the standard of work was exceptional and the volume of entries was significantly increased on previous years.

Thank you to competition co-ordinator Michael O’Sullivan for his dedication and commitment in making this event such a success, to Niamh Whitty for running the weekend and to the team of volunteers, in particular Jason Town for handling the scoring system and Paul Maher who did a great job managing prints. It’s very easy to overlook the amount of work that takes place not just on the day itself but in the year and months leading up to the finals. Thanks to all involved.

Many thanks to Canon for their generous sponsorship.  The lucky overall winner received an EOS 60D camera and a Pixma Pro-1 printer, and winners in each categories got a Pixma MG6350 printer and sample packs of photo paper.
