AV 2010 - 28th IPF National Audio Visual Championships

AV 2010

The 28th Irish National Audio-Visual Championships, organised by the Irish Photographic Federation Audio-Visual Group will be held on the weekend of 16 & 17 October 2010.

The event will be held in Áras Chrónáin Ionad Cultúrtha, Watery Lane, Clondalkin, Dublin 22, hosted by the East Leinster AV Group.

The judges for this year’s competition are Edgar Gibbs, FRPS, DPAGB, AV-FIAP, and Linda Gibbs, DPAGB, AV-FIAP.  Edgar and Linda are well known in UK and International AV circles both for their AV sequences and as judges.  They judged a previous IPF AV Championships many years ago – in the analogue era.  They will also be showing some of their multi award winning sequences, and their approach to AV.

Irish Met Society Photography Competition 2010

Irish Met Society First Prize Winner 2009 - Winter Blows by Anthony ByrneThe Irish Met Society has announced that it will run another photography competition this year.  The 2009 competition was extremely successful with the winner, Anthony Byrne, going on to achieve first place in the European Met Society competition.

Entries can be of any Irish location but the photograph must have a seasonal or weather theme.

The competition is open to everyone with a maximum of 3 entries per person.  Only colour photographs are accepted and there must be no people in the picture.  Closing date is 30th September 2010.
How to enter: E-mail your photograph(s) to: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it  - include your name, photograph location and photograph title.

Prizes: 1st: 150 Euro, 2nd: 75 Euro, 3rd: 50 Euro.  The Irish Meteorological Society will nominate a panel of judges and their decision will be final.  Please note that photographs submitted as entries may be selected to feature on the IMS website and related links as well as in IMS publications. The photographer will always be acknowledged.

GSI Du Noyer Geological Photography Competition 2010

Mike Simms Entry: Winner Home Category -Karst runnels (rinnenkarren) on dipping Carboniferous limestone at Clooncoose, The Burren, Co. ClareEntries are invited for the Geological Survey of Ireland’s 12th Du Noyer Geological Photography Competition, which each year seems to go from strength to strength.

This competition seeks to encourage a blend of artistic and scientific skills through the medium of photography.

Prizes will be awarded in two categories, Irish and Foreign, with a prize fund of €800.

Entrants may submit a maximum of 4 previously unpublished photographs (print or digital), illustrating any aspect of field geology or scenic landscapes.

Itchy Nose by Thomas Gee, Waterford Camera Club, Best Overall Image, 2010 IPF National Nature Competition.The 2010 IPF National Nature Competition was held in Dublin Zoo on Sunday 7th March.  The competition was judged by renowned Italian nature photographer Claudio Calosi. The results are as follows.

2010 Print & Projected Image Results

Sorry! by Morgan O'Neill, Overall Prizewinner, 2010 Print and Projected Image Competition.Ciaran deBhal receives his Gold Medals for best Mono and Projected Images at the PPI Finals.  Printing Paper prize sponsored by EPSON.The 2010 finals took place over the weekend of 13th & 14th February.  An excellent weekend of photography resulted in the best overall image prize being won by Morgan O’Neill of Mallow Camera Club.

FIAP acceptances were awarded to all images scoring 22 points or more in all three sections.

Distinction Fee Payment

Its that time of year when distinction fees are due. This year for the first time,  we are accepting payment by Paypal. There are two options for payment - annual or lifetime.

The annual renewal fee  is €25.00 p.a and the lifetime fee is a one off fee of €200.  There is also a reduced fee of €15 for Seniors.

Please include your full name and your distinction when paying - it will help us track the payment.
