March 2023

Portrait
Welcome to the March edition of our newsletter. I am eagerly looking forward to the National Photography Competition presentation in the Horse and Jockey in Thurles on April 22nd. The closing date is fast approaching so be sure to get your entries in on time. All the information is on the IPF Website. Thanks to Bermingham Cameras for the fantastic prize of a Nikon Z6 II and a 24-70mm lens for the Image of the Year.
Remember – if you’re not in you can’t win! Hoping to see many of you there on the day to enjoy the best of Irish photography.

There is also preliminary information about the National Nature Photography Competition on our website. The competition will take place in the Autumn and further information will be made available later.

This issue contains an announcement about the National Club Championships in Mullingar on May 20th and 21st. Canon are sponsoring this competition and we will have exciting news on the sponsorship shortly. So start selecting your prints and make sure that your club gets its entries in on time.

We had a very successful distinction sitting in Thurles on March 11th. We saw some wonderful panels of prints and I believe that, for the first time ever, all the AIPF panels were successful. The standard of the work submitted continues to impress myself and the other assessors. It is a real pleasure to be viewing such wonderful prints. Thanks to Des Clinton, Paul Stanley, Bob Morrison, the assessors and all the team that worked so hard on the day to make the occasion a success.

Congratulations to all who submitted successful panels. If you didn’t succeed, take on board the advice give by the assessors and try again.

Best wishes,

John Butler, FIPF, ARPS, President
