September 2023

Welcome to the September edition of our Newsletter. Congratulations to all who received awards in the recent National Nature and Wildlife Photography Competition. Special congratulations to Pascal Lee of Blarney Photographic Club on being awarded the Image of the Competition for “The Catch”. I again wish to thank all who helped make the competition and the presentation ceremony such a success. Details of the results are included in this edition.
A special word of thanks to the members of Kilkenny Photographic Society for organising the presentation ceremony. I’d also like to thank Dom Redding, our Vice President, for standing in for me on the day. I am looking forward to the National Shield competition returning to prints. It really is great to have the opportunity to see panels of high quality prints on display. The Shield will take place in Drogheda this year and there is preliminary information below.

Prior to this we have the upcoming IPF Distinction Assessment in Portlaoise to look forward to on this Saturday September 30th. The quality of the images put forward for assessment continues to improve and it is a privilege to be able to view them close up. Working towards one of the IPF Distinctions is a great way to improve your photography.

Don’t forget to support your clubs and enter the various club competitions.

IPF National Nature and Wildlife Photography Competition

Results
Kilkenny Photographic Society would like to thank all clubs and their members that supported our day running the IPF National Nature & Wildlife Competition 2023. The day started with a talk from renowned wildlife photographer Gordon Rae MPAGB ARPS who provided an insight to his images taken while covering “A Long Journey North” highlighting the birds of Northern Scotland and Iceland. Gordon's ability to tell a story leaves the audience always wanting more. KPS would like to thank Gordon for his time and for sharing his passion for wildlife photography with us on the day.

We would also like to thank everyone that sponsored our raffle with some amazing prizes and to those that purchased tickets. We also want to congratulate all of the winners and all of the entrants who provided us with a great show of wildlife images on the day that was inspirational and shows the hard work and dedication that goes into this genre of photography.

Thank you to the IPF for trusting us with their event and to our amazing group of volunteers that worked hard to make the day a success including our chairman Denis O’Reilly and co-ordinator Suzanne Behan who again pulled off a great event. Lastly a huge thank you to Brian and Bermingham Cameras for their continued support to our club and to nature photography sponsoring the overall prize won by Pascal Lee Blarney CC, Congrats Pascal from everyone at KPS.
