IPF Newsletter - June - 2019

A cháirde
Welcome to June edition of the IPF newsletter, which hopefully keeps you, updated on our latest news and provide you with all the information on what’s coming up over the weeks ahead.
IPF
Throughout the month of May, we were busy with the National Club Finals and I would like to extend my congratulations to Cathchlight Camera Club who for another year were the overall winners. A great two days of photography all under the stewardship of the coordinator for the event Sheamus O’ Donoghue and the members of Mullingar Camera Club who assisted over the weekend in no small way. Our thanks as always to both. The Annual General Meeting of the Irish Photographic Federation took place on Sunday, May 12th and I would like to extend my thanks to both Frank Condra and Deirdre Watson who didn’t seek reelection to Council this time but both gave tremendous service and support to the Federation over the years and we thank them for that. I would also like to welcome Sabrina Dunny, (Carlow Photographic Society) Andy Magan (Kilkenny Photographic Society) and Rory O’ Connor (Blarney Camera Club) who were coopted and elected onto Council at the AGM. We look forward to another year of working collectively on behalf of the Affiliated Clubs of the Federation.

We also had another successful Distinction sitting over the same weekend in Mullingar, congratulations to all those who were successful on the day and for those who weren’t on this occasion please try again, your day will come.

I had the great pleasure of presenting Brian Deering with the Brendan Walkin Medal on Sunday, May 12th also, this award is the highest we can bestow on any member for his services to the Federation over the past eight years as Treasurer. The finances of the Federation are in very good order from the diligent way in which Brian controlled things and accounted for all the funding that came in and went out over the years. Thank you, Brian.

For the second year running, we held the Awards Ceremony alongside the Exhibition at Dublin Camera Club for all those who achieved their various FIAP Distinctions on Saturday, June 8th. Hosted by Dublin Camera Club and coordinated by the Federations FIAP Liason Officer Paul Stanley the event was another great success and I extend my congratulations to all those who achieved their Distinction. My thanks as always to Paul Stanley, Helen Hannifin and John Butler who worked tirelessly behind the scenes on the application process and checking the requirements etc to make this all happen.

It was presentations all around on the day as Denis Whelehan (PSA Liason Officer) and I had the pleasure of presenting Bill Power with his award for his recently achieved MPSA from the Photographic Society of America. In order to achieve the Master PSA distinction, it requires 500 different images and 1,500 acceptances. There are only approximately 250 photographers worldwide who have achieved this distinction and Bill is the first in Ireland North and South to have done so. Many Congratulations Bill, a terrific achievement.

Finally this month I would like to thank Sheamus O’ Donoghue for his support over the past three years as Vice President, Sheamus stepped down from this role at our last meeting as his term of three years was up. A stalwart to the Federation and I thank him personally for his support and encouragement. I would also like to congratulate Liam Beattie who was elected the new Vice President.

Until next time,
Kind Regards,
Dominic Reddin FIPF
President Irish Photographic Federation

Bill Power, Awarded the MPSA

Over the years, Bill has been awarded a FIPF, EFIAP Gold, and an ARPS. He has recently achieved the Photographic Society of America’s MPSA. In order to achieve the Master PSA distinction, this requires 500 different images and 1,500 acceptances. There are only approximately 250 photographers worldwide who have achieved this distinction and Bill is the first in Ireland North and South to have done so. He has also gained many PSA and FIAP medals on this journey in a relatively short time and was ranked second in the world among the top exhibitors in mono print in 2016. This is a great accomplishment and demonstrates the high standard of photography in Ireland.

IPF Awards

Did you know that the IPF has an honorary award system available?

IMPORTANT.

"The following amendment to the Peter Slattery Memorial Award was agreed by the IPF Council. In order to assist clubs who have several qualifying members they wish to nominate for this award and qualify according to the notes and guidelines on the IPF website, permission has been granted to nominate three members in the year of their first application only and this amendment only applies up until the AGM in 2022."

IPF Awards should not be confused with IPF Distinctions. Awards are made to individuals who have served above and beyond at club or higher level over a significant period. To preserve the integrity and high standing of these honorary awards, the number granted each year will be strictly limited. The final decision on granting each Award will be made by the IPF Awards Committee, which shall be comprised of six members of the IPF Council including a secretary elected by the Awards Committee and chaired by the IPF President.
