A very successful and full weekend was enjoyed by all – competitors – winners – and those not successful this time – and attendees from England, Northern Ireland, Ulster, Munster & Leinster.
Bev Tyrer & Alan Tyrer, DPAGB/AV, ARPS had a very intense weekend judging and commenting on all the entries in the Nationals – Novice, Intermediate, Club & Advanced totalling 19 entries from Enniscorthy Camera Club, Clare Camera Club, Shannon Camera Club, Breffni Photography Club, Celbridge Camera Club, Offshoot Photographic Society, Bangor & North Down Camera Club & An Oige Photographic Group. There were 41 sequences in the Photo Harmony competition, which were between 3 & 5 minutes duration. They came from Netherlands, Ireland – north and south, Norway, Wales, New Zealand, England and South Africa.
Without hardly catching a breath, following the last session of judging, Bev & Alan showed several of their sequences and explaining what inspired them – thus giving a great flavour of their work.
After lunch on Sunday, there were three applications for distinctions in AV – and Margaret Finlay, AIPF, from Palmerstown Camera Club was successful. Well done.
In conjunction with the weekend, there was an exhibition of prints from Palmerstown Camera Club on display, a raffle to help with the expenses and a dinner in the Green Isle Hotel for 25 on Saturday night. Several also met up with Alan & Bev for meals on the Friday & Sunday nights -all in all a very sociable event.

At the conclusion of the festival, Lilian Webb, as Hon. Secretary/Hon. Treasurer of the IPF AV Group Committee, and on behalf of the Committee, read a citation and presented Alan Lyons, AIPF with a “World Cup”to mark his being the projectionist of the IPF AV Nationals for 20 years – half the life of the IPF itself. Alan along with Frank Malthouse, Joe Webb, Lilian Webb & the late Kieran O’Loughlin formed the committee in 1998.
Alan has overseen the entries of sequences from Slides & Tapes, to Digital on discs, memory sticks & wetransfer.com. Since International & Open Sections have been added, Alan has received sequences from all continents except Asia & Antarctica! Alan also set up the East Leinster AV Group and continues to provide expert advice on sound, vision and Photoshop. If it wasn’t for Alan Lyons, we wouldn’t have been able to see and hear the sequences over the last 20 years. We have now welcomed two new ladies on to the committee – Maria O’Brien & Yvonne Acheson, LIPF, both from Shannon Camera Club.
Thanks to everyone who contributed in anyway to make the weekend a success – those who looked after the lunches, judges, reception, photographs, lights, raffle, dinner, MC, Distinctions’Judges, providing and writing the certificates and our President, Dominic Reddin, for attending and presenting all the awards.
