Ireland’s Premier Weekend of Photography returns to Mullingar this May

Ireland’s leading photography clubs and societies will come together this May in Mullingar County Buildings to compete for the IPF Rose Bowl trophy, with the winners taking away the title of Top Irish Club.
Over the course of the weekend of May 17th and 18th, Ireland’s best photographers will display their best work in the atrium of the Mullingar County Buildings.
On show will be the work of camera club members who have won numerous medals and commendations at exhibitions and salons all across the globe including this year’s Bronze medal winners at the FIAP Clubs World Cup, Drogheda Photographic Club.
Along with the display of photographs from the competition, there will also be a distinctions sitting on the Saturday, the 17th, where photographers from any photographic background will seek to gain formal qualifications and have their work assessed by panels of very experienced and accomplished photographers. Each candidate will put forward either 10,15 or 20 images depending on the level they are being assessed at and with usually 50-60 applicants, there will be thousands of photographs on display over the course of the weekend.
As well as the competition and distinctions sittings, there will be a number of other program items over the weekend. See below for additional details.
The images from the competition will be on show on both days from 1pm until 5pm in the atrium of the Mullingar County Buildings and the distinctions sitting will start at 10am and continue until 5pm in the Mullingar Arts Centre on Saturday, the 17th of May.
Admission is free to all and the IPF welcomes everyone to come and see some great photography from clubs across the country.

Saturday 17th of May
8.30 – 9.30 am Hanging of monochrome panels in atrium of Mullingar County Buildings
8.00 – 9.30 am Registration of distinction panels in Mullingar Arts Centre
9.30 am All persons must leave the the atrium for judging
10.00am Adjudication of Fellowship panels commences in Mullingar Arts Centre
11.25am Launch of ‘Images of Distinction’ DVD in Mullingar Arts Centre
11.35am Garda advice on security against theft of camera equipment in Mullingar Arts Centre
11.50am Adjudication of Associateship panels commences in Mullingar Arts Centre
1.00 – 1.45pm Lunch
1.45pm Adjudication of any remaining Associateship panels followed by Licentiateship panels in Mullingar Arts Centre
2.00pm Atrium open to public to view Monochrome Panels
3.45pm Distinctions Awards including FIAP distinctions in Mullingar Arts Centre
4.30 pm Only if time allows – Judges comments on monochrome panels
5.00 pm Hanging of colour panels – All monochrome panels must be submitted to the Event Coordinator to be held over until prize giving on Sunday
7.30 pm Dinner in Mullingar Park Hotel – Limited to 40 persons – Cost will be €30 and can be paid via PayPal link below
Sunday 18th of May
8.30 am – 9.30 am – Hanging of colour panels
10.00 am – 12.00 pm – Annual General Meeting of the Irish Photographic Federation in Aras an Mhuillin
12.00 pm – 1.00 pm – Talk by Seamus Costello FIPF of Kilkenny Photographic Society (Topic to be confirmed) in Aras na Mhuillin
Seamus will be talking about off camera flash using transmitters, receivers and modifiers with a hands on approach.Seamus will have a model with him to demonstrate this techniques and will also have sample prints from his work as a fashion, glamour, beauty, and fine art nude photographer.
2.30 pm – 3.30 pm – Judges comments on colour panels
3.30 pm – 4.00 pm – Prize giving ceremony
4.00 pm – 4.15 pm – Changing of IPF President ceremony
4.30 pm – Removal of panels after being cleared by the Event Coordinator
* – Timings may be changed over the course of the weekend to facilitate smooth running of events.
Accommodation
Mullingar Park Hotel has agreed a room rate of €65 per person sharing and €95 for single occupancy, this includes breakfast and use of the hotel leisure facilities, please quote the “Irish Photographic Federation” when booking with the hotel.
