Denis Whelehan AIPF APSA EFIAP was recently awarded with both an honorary life membership of his own camera club (Dundalk Photographic Society) and with the Brendan Walkin medal from the IPF for his longstanding and outstanding services to Irish Photography. We would like to recognise all of the above and say thank you and congratulations to our good friend Denis.
Our president, Dr. John Cuddidy, who attended the event, writes to tell you more.
“Several weeks ago, I was contacted by Ciaran De Bhal of Dundalk Photographic Society with a proposal. Would I become involved in making a presentation to Denis Whelehan for his outstanding services to Irish photography? The answer was an instant yes!
Denis has singularly stood out as the moving force who has literally travelled to all corners of the country over the years both judging and observing photographic images. A photographic version of a connoisseur of fine wine you might say. It is due in large part to his devotion and skill that Dundalk PS is rightly recognized up there on the world stage of club photography. Moreover, the fact that Ireland are the 2012 FIAP Biennial World Champions is due in no small part to Denis himself.
So at a DPS social function on November 28th Denis was rightly “ambushed”. Having been awarded with honorary life membership of the DPS, I had the honor of presenting Denis with the Walkin Medal for his outstanding services to Irish photography. I also wish to pay tribute to his wife Joan who has been such a support to Denis over the years.
I do believe that the celebrations went on well into the night!
Denis, well done, and on behalf of the wider IPF family, our deepest thanks.
John Cuddihy AIPF
President IPF”
