November 4, 2014 by Niamh Whitty Leave a Comment

Report of the Irish Photographic Federation’s 32nd National Audio Visual Championships & 2nd All Ireland Audio Visual Competition by Lilian Webb, AIPF, on behalf of the IPF AV Group Committee – Edwin Bailey, LIPF, Christopher Doyle, Margaret Finlay, LIPF, Alan Lyons, AIPF, Marie McGuinness, Rita Nolan, LIPF & Brendan O’Sullivan, AIPF (Chairman).

A very successful weekend was held in Aras Chronain Ionad Culturtha, Clondalkin on Saturday, 18th and Sunday, 19th October. Unfortunately, at the last moment, Martin Fry, FRPS, AFIAP, AV-AVIAP, APAGB, BPE2* was unable to judge due to illness. However, the Committee were delighted that Richard Brown, FRPS, EFIAP, FIPF, APAGB was available to judge and are extremely thankful to him.

On Friday, 17th, 19 audio visual workers and friends gathered from Shannon, Enniscorthy and the Dublin region together with Richard for a meal in Bewleys Hotel. The judging of the championships took place all day Saturday, when Richard gave very helpful comments on each of the 6 sequences, (3 of these first time entrants) in the Novice Section, 2 Club entries, 5 Intermediate and 7 Advanced entries. This was followed by general comments on 10 sequences in the All Ireland section.

Competitors came from Shannon, Ennis, Enniscorthy, Celbridge, Malahide Camera Clubs, the IPF AV Group and Donaghadee & Antrim Camera Clubs and Merville & Newtownabbey Photographic Society. 38 meals were served later in Aras Chronain which was most enjoyable socially, followed by a music session, which lasted until the early hours of the next morning! On Sunday, 19th the morning was taken by Richard when he showed some of his sequences and dissected them to show how they were put together and answered many questions.

Sunday afternoon saw the showing of the prize winning sequences and presentation of prizes by the Vice President of the IPF, Lilian Webb. Before departing for different parts of the country, 12 ended the evening by a further meal in Bewleys Hotel.

Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this weekend a great success.
